A look back on the F18 World Championship
Throwback to last week’s F18 raid World championship in Brittany, France...
5 days of long distance racing with a different stop off each night. A van met the fleet at each destination carrying tents and belongings for the stop overs. The scoring is based on combined times for all completed legs, this made for a very open championship with the top 3 teams all within 1 minute of each other after 20 hours of racing!
Unfortunately we fell from 3rd to 4th on the last day. Slack water around what could have been the most tidally tactical leg didn’t really benefit us, but we're still coming away feeling happy with our performance over the week.
The Caen-Portsmouth ferry was fully booked with no cabins available so I spent an extra night in my tent...
If you consider yourself a catamaran sailor then this event needs to be on your bucket list! A different destination every day with a standout shore crew driving your tents and bags between each stop, Olivier’s team were so organised and made the right calls at the right time, every time.
The F18 class is so strong to have 5 different manufacturers filling out the top 6 spots and energy from the exciting development taking place. Decksweepers with the right supporting mods are definitely the way forward and I feel the curve is steep.
Looking forward to improving my Moth wing mast set up now followed by some serious rig updates to the Vampire project during the Autumn.
